Sleeping sea lions, Galapagos.
Galapagos Islands, Ecuador, 2008.
A rookery of sleeping sea lions dozed on the beach totally oblivious to our presence.
On these islands, with limited human interaction, it is possible to approach the animals who have no natural fear of humans. Unfortunately, during this trip, a law had recently passed banning fishing in certain areas surrounding the Galapagos, and prompted outraged fisherman to react by bludgeoning over 50 male Galapagos sea lions to death.
The Galapagos sea lion is listed as endangered.
