Sand-bubbler crab, Australia.
Cape Triulation Beach inside Daintree National Park, Port Douglas, Queensland, Australia, 2009.
Cape Tripulation Beach is covered with a kind of dot matrix abstract art. Scattered across the beach are perfectly rolled spheres of sand that tend to take shape much like the clouds in the sky. These designs are the unintentional product of the sand-bubbler crab's search for food. The crab sieves through sand, feeding off the detritus within the sand and casting away the unwanted materials in the form of little balls.
After taking a few shots of the "art" made by this sand-bubbler, I patiently waited for the artist to emerge and show himself long enough to steal a photograph.
